SpaceX is targeting launch of NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) on Wednesday, April 18 from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida. The 30-second launch window opens at 6:51 p.m. EDT, or 22:51 UTC. TESS will be deployed into a highly elliptical orbit approximately 48 minutes after launch.
Following stage separation, SpaceX will attempt to land Falcon 9’s first stage on the “Of Course I Still Love You” droneship, which will be stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.

*What do I do, orbitanons?* >Be me >NASA >Government funded >Been making spacecraft since the mid 1900s >Try to make reusable ships but screw up >About 20 yrs later >Broke as hell >No money for big orbit >Work out clever eliptical orbit w/ some quick mafs >Too broke for rocket >Hire company to carry our satellite to space >MFW SpaceX is better at making spaceships than me >MFW over 50 years of wasted time

Would like to know if the area where Spacex employees gather outside of Mission Control to watch (and cheer) the launch is near the cafeteria. On occasion, with some of these webcasts, I hear sounds like plates and silverware being used.

That Title, Artist: Test Shot Starfish, Flight-Proven means something internally and probably shouldn’t be included in the broadcast. Now Flight-Proven has become Resonator. God that intro video was nicely done. Need some more of that production value everywhere else. No more laughing or giddiness, Lauren was on top of her game this time. When she knows the camera recording her is included in the broadcast feed she makes more mistakes reading that prompter just FYI. Wow that was a lot of freaking air bubbles. Everyone must have saw them, pay attention to the velocity of those dang things and then think about the velocity the first stage would be traveling as it fell down to the Earth. I just can’t believe those bubbles are just slowly floating away like that. Have you ever been skydiving before? The spit in my mouth flew onto my face after I mistakenly opened it trying to catch my breath as I fell at over 100 mph. Not a chance those bubbles were floating away at 100 mph I can tell you that much. Should speak volumes about what’s actually happening to you useful idiots out there. The Earth is a blurry grey blob surrounded by bubbles, YES!!! The entry burn somehow turned day into night. That’s good stuff. Those fins look like they are hung over left right left right left right is that really how they work? And of course the most critical moment of the landing just happens to coincide with a temporary “accidental” signal loss. Get to the chopper. Now! Man space has all sorts of debris floating around in it. If only the pool man would have done his job and cleaned the filters. When you turned out the lights couldn’t see as many floating stars. Genius. It’s snowing in space! Is totally normal the new nominal? That thing isn’t going to fly by the moon or any other planets. It may float another 20 feet in the pool away from the submerged second stage. 💙

to be honest, all of this recketry is very impressive but unfortunately so primitive. instead of building up spacex, elon should have invested his money into research. does he really think, this will go on for longer than maybe 10 years? as I see this, elon hinders progress with this ancient technology

Thijs Snijder oh, sorry my bad, thank you
Thijs Snijder
Thijs Snijder Pirms 2 Gadiem
retract only applies to drawing things back in, not out. www.dictionary.com/browse/retract because they have no way of making the long "black bits" at the bottom go back up again to the side during the launch. this creates a lot of turbulance and drag, lowering the rockets performance and unpredictable in the best case. spaceflightnow.com/2018/05/10/photos-falcon-9-block-5-poised-for-launch-at-kennedy-space-center/ as you can read retractable "black bits" will be a feuture new to block 5 indicating that older versions didn't have it.
Darren Pirms 2 Gadiem
Thijs Snijder yes they are. You know what retractable means right? Able to be drawn in or out. Just like a car convertible. The bloke 5 still works the same as he other falcons. They are able to retract the legs. The black bits at the bottom of the rocket are the landing legs. So my question is why don't they just launch it like that.
Thijs Snijder
Thijs Snijder Pirms 2 Gadiem
maybe you saw a static test fire or something, or the new block V, but those legs definitely are NOT retractable, not without a lot of work.
Darren Pirms 2 Gadiem
Thijs Snijder they are. I've seen pictures of it with its legs down before launch, but they just test them. Wouldn't it make sense just to launch it with its legs.

I hope someone at SpaceX reads this ! :). I heard Gwynne Shotwell speak recently (for the first time... and E Musk always speaks the same way, I've heard him several times). She was talking about her conviction that common people should share in this, be promoted in this, contribute to this. No exclusive language, just a pure and ambitious vision for humanity. I have lamented over the years at the lack of visionaries we have had in our time (with the exception of some artists etc). Our goals have been so weak and small. And then these folks come along! They are doing this work in the context of *all* of us. And they aren't being arrogant and exclusive about it. This company could very well become the real "Star Fleet" someday... I can hardly believe that I'm watching this unfold. SpaceX is what the world needs... not more laws, not more coercion. Human beings need something to reach for, something to dream for. I am so grateful to (and for) this company,.. and it's people. SpaceX Bys Vyken !!!!
