Do they ever use specific spots to re-enter or exit Earth's atmosphere, like places where there are large holes in our atmosphere/ozone layer? I can't find any information about this.
The only specific details about launch and re-entry would be to land at the designated site or to ensure its target sits on the same plane, add to that weather and in the case of crewed launches the offshore environment. There isn't really gaps in the atmosphere that make re-entry or launch easier, unless you count local air pressure which is not that important when you screech through the atmosphere at almost orbital velocity. TLDR: There are many reasons for specific launch or re-entry times and positions but apart from weather the Earth's atmosphere plays no real part in that.
Isn't the idea of Mission Control a little archaic these days? Surely people need to be in the loop, but isn't there one or more computers monitoring all readings simultaneously and coming to its own conclusions?
I just wished they wouldn't focus so much on "great achievement for AMERICA" and America this and American that. Yes, I get you are a patriot and ofc most of all the work in these missions are made by Americans in the USA and you should get credit for it but ultimately this is a great achievement for all humanity! Space exploration should bring us together as one despite nationalities. I tune in very often to the live feeds or videos and I get so excited, anxious and proud for these achievements although I'm not from USA. 👍

Adiabatic compression, not friction, though I understand why you say friction for public consumption :P If you want to know what adiabatic compression is, let's go somewhere cool. You'll need a bike with a flat type and a cycle pump. Let them reach ambient room temperature. Now pump up the tyre! You will be able to feel the pump become warmer, this is not due to friction but due to compressing air! Adiabatic compression at work, and it is the same thing the reentry vehicle does to the atmosphere, it slams into it so fast that the air cannot get out of the way fast enough and is compressed... Weird, huh?
